Do you have a sign for yourself that you’re still in the game?
Are you wondering what game I’m talking about?
I’m talking about this game of life that we’re in.
Whatever it is that you’re here to do.
How do you know you’re living it?
More than just getting by day to day.
Really living it.
I find it really helpful to have signs I give myself to remind me that I’m still in my very best, most alive game.
Right now, it’s hills.
When the weather’s good, I exercise outside – often a power walk, run or bike ride.
And I never skip a hill.
No matter how tired I am, or how steep the hill is, I climb it.
And every time I get to the top,
I rmind myself “yep. Still in the game”
And I get a hit of feel-good buzz.
Here’s why it’s a good idea:
If you’re an emotional eater like me,
you’re probably a black and white thinker.
Regarding your eating, you’re either ‘being good’ or ‘out of control’.
Things are either “fantastically amazing” or “dismal”.
Your workout routine is either ‘daily’ or, if you miss a few days, it’s ‘hopeless’.
Most of the time,my guess is it’s all somewhere in between.
Having a way to remind yourself that you’re still in the game is a great way to take yourself out of this black and white thinking.
Because once you tell yourself you’re ‘out of control’ or ‘hopeless’, you have a long way to go to get back in the game.
And I’m guessing you’ll do some mroe damage before you do.
Let’s say you’ve eaten more than you needed yesterday,
and you wake up feeling sluggish and bloated.
If you tell yourself you’re hopeless, or out of control,
you’re unlikely to lace up and go for your workout, right?
If you’re anything like me, you’d be moe likely to hit the couch wit a box of chocolates as soon as the kids leave for school.
But if you know that today is a new day.
And you know that you can check in – Am I Still In The Game?
You’re far more likely to get out there,
find the closest hill,
climb it,
remind yourself you’re still in the game,
and let today be a day where you get to decide,
anew,
how you will play your game today.
Let me know, what’s your sign?
