I love the story of the 4 minute mile
Do you know it?
Until 1954, no one was known to run a mile in under 4 minutes.
All the fastest runners tried and tried and couldn’t do it.
Until Roger Bannister did it.
Suddenly all those elite runners who had failed were doing it.
Running that mile in 4 minutes or less.
So what changed?
Not their physical ability.
Their thinking changed.
Before they thought it was physically impossible,
So it was for them
Now they knew it was possible,
So it was for them.
My groups are doing it daily lately
Both the women in my six month challenge class and my mindbodysoul cleanse class.
Every time they tell me they can’t give something up.
I invite them to question this thinking.
I show them that its true that they can’t.
But only bc they think they can’t.
Then they decide to believe maybe they can.
Easily,
and feel better.
Because we’re in a group, some who’ve done this share that they have
and how wonderful they feel.
Then suddenly it becomes a possibility for the others.
We’re giving up caffeine, diet soda, alcohol,
Conflict with in-laws.
We’re saying no to challah, dessert, chocolate,
The belief that we must do it perfectly.
What we’re gaining is lightness, energy, vitality, ease, peace.
This peace, of course, was always available to us.
But because we believed that it wasn’t,
it wasn’t.
Now that we’re practicing believing it is,
No matter what’s happening around us
We’re discovering that it is.
Have fun with this – I invite you:
Today, notice one belief that is only true for you because you believe that it is.
And invite yourself to blast through that thought barrier
and see what you find on the other side.
