I have a new client, Chloe, and she is so cool.
She came up with a weight loss strategy that I think is pretty foolproof:
She calls it “starting with the end in mind“.
Here’s how it works:
You decide what outcome you want for your day, or meal,
And then everything follows from there.

Instead of agonizing over whether she should order pasta or fish,
Chloe has already decided that she wants to feel light and sleep well at the end of the day,
And she knows that a carb-heavy meal leads to indigestion and heartburn,
So the decision has already been made.
It can only be the fish.

She does this throughout the day.
Her outcome is always to feel energized and sleep well.
And she keeps this in mind all day.
It frees her from the decision fatigue that ruins many resolutions.

We all know how to eat so that our unique body will feel energized all day and sleep well at night.
Lately, I’ve been teaching my clients to study how different foods make them feel the next day too.
I find that if I eat a lot of sugar or carbs, the next day I’m foggy, irritable and tired.
Definitely not the outcome I’m aiming for. Ever.
So that’s the end I keep in mind.
I think about the outcome I want the day after.

Clarity. Energy. Even mood.
This makes all my food decisions so easy.
Eating lots of fat and veggies is my way to achieve that outcome.
So that’s what I do. I’m eating for the outcome I want.

Thinking this way is so freeing.
I don’t waste mental energy deciding whether this cookie will be worth it,
or whether that pizza needs to be tasted.
Because, no matter how delicious they may be,
And I know they are,
It’s not about taste for me anymore (most of the time).
It’s about using food as a means to achieve the outcome I desire.

I love that the food discussion with Chloe is not just about which food will be most slimming for her,
Although that is definitely one of her desired outcomes.
But that can take a while, often longer than we want when we are in perimenopause.
So focusing on an outcome that recognizes that food is one of the tools we have
to affect our emotional, mental and energetic state
Takes the conversation to a whole new level.
It helps us realize how powerful we are,
And how much control we have over our experience on this glorious earth.

What is the outcome you desire?

Start with the end in mind,
And see how simple your choices become.
I can help you clarify your desired outcome and the foods that will help you achieve this.
My individual coaching practice is currently full, but I do have some spots left in my Hunger Games class,
where we’ll do this work together in an intimate, women only group.
If you’d like to schedule a consultation for private coaching,  I’ll wait list you for the first  spot (likely July).
