Or
How comfortable are you with your sexuality?
This is important
because it may impact whether you’ll lose weight
and, more importantly,
whether you’ll maintain that weight loss or regain it.
Today I realized how much I’ve changed.
Rewind ten years.
I was in a thin phase.
In the supermarket, dairy counter.
A muscly young man, clearly very comfortable with his sexuality, stood next to me.
His eyes moved up and down my body slowly.
Eventually he said “you look nice” in a suggestive tone.
This triggered a binge that lasted many months,
until my excess weight protected me from any more advances.
Today, I went to buy my new cell phone with my nine year old daughter
(for those of you who read my last post, and wondered – final sum was $389 – I am gooood).
The sales guy was helpful, and we were having a grand time learning about the phone, setting things up, researching syncing options, me being very excited and happy.
He put my SIM card into my new phone, asked for my number, and sent me a text.
A series of texts actually, in quick succession:
test
call me any time for more help
only on this number
this is Akram
wish to have ur friendship.
My first thought was “Man I need to start wearing my wedding ring”
I thanked him, and left the store, feeling quite light and serene.
He ran after me to give me my old Blackberry, which I’d left behind,
and said that he hoped I wasn’t offended by his offer.
I told him I was married, and he responded:
“My bad luck. I have a bit of a crush on you”.
On the way home, my daughter and I giggled about what a sweet man he was,
and wondered who we could set him up with.
What happened between the first and second encounter?
Coaching.
In coaching I discovered that it’s OK to let my light shine,
to be a big presence in this world,
to have people want me who can’t have me,
to inspire and attract people, and not have to do anything about it.
I learned that it’s OK to feel wonderful about myself
and it’s safe to do so.
And that I’m safe.
And somehow, without ever actually talking about sexuality,
something happened and I became comfortable with feeling sexy.
Not in a flirty way
but as an expression of who I am, as part of me.
To be celebrated and not denied.
Want to lose weight?
It’s worth exploring what you’re using your extra layers to protect you from,
and how you feel about exposing your spectacularness to the world.
